Make Your Own Sandboard - Bender

This is what I used to bend the sandboard in all three experiments, I only adjusted it slightly for the different lengths of the boards.

You can modify these instructions however you like, this is just how I made the "Bender", but there are plenty of different ways that you could make the same thing.

Ingredients;
  • Two planks of wood about 5cm wide each and at least 20cm longer then the length of your sandboard.
  • Two pieces of wood, about 30cm wide by at least 40cm high.
  • Jigsaw or Saw
  • Long Nails
Instructions;
  1. Take your two planks of wood and lay them parallel on the ground about 5cm apart. (Refer to the picture below)
  2. Take your first piece of wood and line it up with the end of the planks, you want to cut the piece of wood into a T shape, so the middle of the T goes between the two planks and the top of the T sits on top of the planks. (Refer to the picture below)
  3. Mark out where you are going to cut out on the piece of wood, do the same for the other piece.
  4. Cut out both pieces of wood.
  5. Nail the pieces of wood to the planks from the bottom, you want them positioned so they are slightly closer then the end of your sandboard. So when you jam the wood into the Bender, the ends will be forced to curve upwards. (Refer to the picture below)
  6. The Bender should now be right to use.
