Make Your Own Sandboard

All of the boards A few years back I tried to make my own sandboard, or actually sandboards (There were a few attempts). And I thought I'd document the process of how I made the boards in case you are interested in making your own (mostly so you know what not to do). I have almost no woodworking experience when I tried to make these boards. I did woodwork at school for 6 months, but I'm not sure if that really counts.

Attempt One - Bending the board by first soaking it in water.
Attempt Two - The most successful attempt.
Attempt Three - Attempting to improve on attempt two.
Making the "Bender" - What I used to bend all three boards.

Some good tips
If you are serious about making a board read through all my attempts before you actually get underway, I've listed things that went wrong or I think may be able to be improved upon. Also check out the Links page for other sites which include sandboard making instructions.
Read as many different instructions as you can before you actually start on making your own board.

Ocean Culture Sandboard

The sandboards I made weren't too bad, but I ended up purchasing a really sweet board from a company down in South Australia called Ocean Culture. I bought the Jumpboard 'BANDIT'. I find that it's perfect for me, It's 105cm in length with their twin tip design.

Cheap and not so Cheap alternatives
If you aren't interested in buying a board and can't be bothered making one, check out the Alternative Sandboard section for a list of commonly found/easily obtained items that make pretty decent sandboards also includes stuff that you really shouldn't try sandboarding with.
